This top, by the wonderful Sonia Rykiel (on her Sonia label), is so interesting – its front covered by layers of horizontal fabric strips. The bow at the top adds a delicate touch, and the sleeveless garment is held by two 1.5″ shoulder straps. Simple yet complex, this is such a unique top. Made of 100% cotton, in China.

Sonia Rykiel was born in Paris on May 25, 1930. She began in fashion as a window dresser (age 17), and a few years later married a man who owned a clothing store. She began designing for herself in the early 60s, but, before long, her things were selling in her husband’s store. In 1968 their marriage ended, and Sonia opened her own boutique. Over the next decades she rose to be one of the world’s leading designers. When she died, Vogue magazine wrote, Rykiel imbued French fashion with a playful sensuality that made her a favorite of other designers and beloved by women looking for a laissez-faire approach to dressing.
